Instructions in 8 steps For an exceptional colour gradient, the cushions must be dipped several times in different colour shades. That way, an individual colour gradient is created.
Besides the articles listed below, you also need: Optimally plastic container wider than 40 cm as a vessel for dyeing, commontable salt, thermometer, stirrer, electric kettle or cooking pot and hob, apron, rubber gloves, clothes pegs, waterproof pad for the vessel fordyeing and clothes drying rack
And this is how it works: 1
Step 1
Preparation: In preparation for the dyeing process, pre-wash the pillowcase without fabric softener to wash out the finishing of the fabric. Iron it before dyeing so that there are no creases in the fabric. Prepare all the work materials and make about 2 l of water boil, dissolve about ½ of the batik dye pack in the vessel intended for dyeing filled with hot water using the stirrer.2
Step 2
Then add a tablespoon of common table salt and stir it well.3
Step 3
Now add about 2 l of warm water from the tap so that you reach an immersion depth of 10-15 cm when immersing in the cushion. The water amount depends on the size of your dyeing vessel and can therefore vary. The temperature should be at least 40-50°C. Dyeing can be done up to 90°C. The hotter the dye bath, the more intense the dyeing result.4
Step 4
Now dip the pillowcase slowly and evenly into the dye bath to a depth of about 10 cm. Keep it that way for a few minutes. The dyeing time has also an impact on the intensity of the colour shade.5
Step 5
Then take the pillowcase out of the dye bath and let it drain well. Then hang it straight down on open clothes drying rack.Important: Do not forget to put something underneath the clothes drying rack, as the paint will drip down.

Step 6
After 2-3 hours, you can achieve lighter colour shade through a dipping process. To do this, dilute the existing dye bath with approx. 2-3 litres of warm water and repeat the dipping process. Now dip the pillowcase into the dye bath about 5 cm deeper than the first time and then take the pillowcase immediately out. That’s how a beautiful colour gradation from dark to light is reached.7
Step 7
Afterwards, let the pillowcase drain evenly, hang it on the clothes drying rack slightly open and this time wait until it is completely dry so that the white fabric does not discolour when washed out later.8
